From January 1, international roaming in these countries will not be charged

(CNN Español) – Celebrating the move, Colombian President Evan Duke announced on Friday that Postpaid international roaming services in Andean countries will be phased out from January 1, 2022. The measure is in effect in Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru.

“With technology, we are closing the digital divide, but above all we are uniting the Andes,” Duke said in a video posted on his social media network.

This way, residents of these countries do not have to pay extra for international roaming service. Resolution 854, the same terms or tariff plans that apply to a transnational and compulsory regulation, voice, SMS and data services will apply.

According to the Andean community, the initiative will benefit 111 million people in the region. The standard was approved by member states on February 19, 2020.
