Ford will inspect 1.89 million vehicles in the United States due to concerns about a part becoming detached

The documents were uploaded Wednesday to the website of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSAIts acronym in English) indicates that although the defect was discovered in 2018, it was not until January of this year that Ford decided to take action to solve the problem.

The problem centers around some plastic mold-holding clips on the outside of your Ford Explorer.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), if all of the clips are not engaged properly, the mold can come loose, which “poses a hazard to other vehicles,” according to the federal agency.

In January of this year, Ford indicated that it had information about 14,377 reports from insurance companies related to this problem, although it was not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from mold separation.

The recall affects Explorer SUVs from years of manufacture 2011 to 2019.

Ford dealers will inspect potentially affected vehicles to check the trim and replace the part free of charge.
