Cyngn has announced the deployment of four autonomous DriveMod Tuggers at Vann Family Orchards in northern California, marking a further step in the company’s expansion into agricultural processing and automated material handling.

The Mountain View-based technology firm said the commercial rollout will see its autonomous vehicles transport raw materials between storage and processing areas across interconnected warehouse facilities. The move signals growing adoption of automation across food and agriculture supply chains, particularly as operators seek to address labour constraints and improve operational efficiency.

The deployment replaces part of the site’s manual forklift operations while retaining human workers for loading and unloading tasks. This hybrid approach is designed to enhance consistency and safety while improving the utilisation of both labour and equipment.

“At Vann Family Orchards, raw materials must move continuously between warehouses and processing equipment to keep production running,” said Lior Tal, Cyngn’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “This deployment demonstrates DriveMod’s ability to operate reliably in agricultural environments where throughput, safety, and uptime are operationally critical. Agriculture represents one of the largest and most demanding physical industries in the world, and automation is becoming essential infrastructure for it.”

The initiative reflects broader trends within the agricultural sector, where increasing production volumes and tightening labour availability are accelerating investment in automation technologies. California, where the deployment has taken place, remains a central hub for US agriculture, generating more than $61.2 billion in annual output. The state produces approximately half of the country’s vegetables and three-quarters of its fruits and nuts, spanning more than 400 agricultural commodities.

Such scale places significant demands on downstream logistics, processing, and distribution networks. Efficient and reliable material movement is critical to maintaining throughput across these operations, particularly in facilities handling perishable goods. Autonomous systems such as Cyngn’s DriveMod platform are increasingly being positioned as a solution to these operational pressures.

Vann Family Orchards, founded in California’s Sacramento Valley, operates large-scale processing facilities serving both domestic and international markets. Its infrastructure and throughput requirements make it a suitable environment for autonomous transport systems, particularly those designed to operate in continuous production settings.

Cyngn’s latest deployment builds on its recent activity within the food and beverage sector. The company previously announced a DriveMod rollout with G&J Pepsi, the largest independent Pepsi bottler in the United States. Together, these projects illustrate the company’s strategy to scale its presence across industries characterised by high-volume, repetitive material handling tasks.

The DriveMod system is designed to integrate with existing warehouse operations, enabling autonomous vehicles to navigate predefined routes while coexisting with human workers and traditional equipment. By focusing on partial automation rather than full workforce replacement, Cyngn is aligning its technology with operational models that prioritise flexibility and gradual adoption.

The implementation at Vann Family Orchards was carried out in partnership with Chandler Automation, which supported the design and execution of the automated material flow system. Systems integrators play a key role in such deployments, ensuring that autonomous technologies are effectively incorporated into existing facility layouts and workflows.

Industry observers note that automation in agriculture and food processing is likely to accelerate further in the coming years, driven by cost pressures, workforce shortages, and the need for greater supply chain resilience. Autonomous vehicles, robotics, and intelligent logistics systems are expected to form a growing part of this transformation.

For Cyngn, the latest deployment represents both a commercial milestone and a strategic foothold in a sector where demand for automation is expanding rapidly. As agricultural producers and processors continue to modernise operations, the ability to deliver reliable, scalable automation solutions may prove critical to long-term growth.

The company’s continued focus on partnerships and sector-specific deployments suggests a targeted approach to market expansion, with food, agriculture, and consumer goods industries emerging as key areas of opportunity.
