London — Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer Colby O’Donis has reunited with global R&B icon Akon for a new single, “Locked Up With You,” released under Akon’s revitalised label, Konvict Kulture. The track’s teaser video has already amassed more than 10 million views, signalling a major return for one of pop and R&B’s most successful creative partnerships.

O’Donis — best known as the unforgettable voice behind Lady Gaga’s Diamond-certified No.1 “Just Dance” — has once again teamed up with his long-time mentor Akon, reigniting a collaboration that first propelled him to international fame. The new release, out on 24 October, marks the pair’s first joint project in over a decade and is already drawing strong attention from both fans and industry watchers.

Proven Hitmakers Reunite

The release carries impressive credentials. O’Donis and Akon previously achieved consecutive commercial successes with their early collaborations. Their first, “What You Got,” reached No.14 on the Billboard Hot 100, earned Platinum certification, and remained on the charts for 25 weeks. They followed with Akon’s “Beautiful,” featuring O’Donis and Kardinal Offishall, which climbed to No.19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved double Platinum status globally.

“The proven chart-topping duo sets their sites on another successful collaboration with their latest single, ‘Locked Up With You,’” the official statement reads. “Now, with ‘Locked Up With You,’ the two artists return to that undeniable chemistry — blending Colby’s smooth, soulful delivery with Akon’s instantly recognizable tone. The result is a pop/RnB fusion, beat-driven track built for both radio and streaming domination.”

A Legacy of Early Success

O’Donis’ career is marked by early achievement and enduring influence. At just 10 years old, he became the youngest artist ever signed to Motown Records, a milestone that set the foundation for his music career. That same year, he appeared on the Stuart Little soundtrack, marking his professional debut.

His breakthrough came as the featured vocalist on Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” — a global hit that earned a Grammy nomination, topped the Billboard Hot 100, and achieved Diamond certification. The collaboration not only introduced Gaga to the world but also established O’Donis as one of the most promising young talents in pop and R&B.

Throughout his career, O’Donis has performed alongside some of the biggest names in music, opening for New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Ne-Yo. These early experiences helped solidify his reputation as a performer with broad crossover appeal.

Konvict Kulture’s Comeback

The new single also marks a key moment for Akon’s Konvict Kulture, the label known for fostering global talent and producing crossover hits. The label’s relaunch focuses on artist development and creative reinvention — and O’Donis’ return reflects both.

With “Locked Up With You,” the two artists revisit the formula that defined their earlier success: a polished R&B-pop sound combining melodic hooks with rhythmic production. Early reception has been strong, as the teaser video’s 10-million-view milestone demonstrates growing excitement among fans and streaming audiences alike.

Industry Anticipation and Future Outlook

Music analysts suggest that “Locked Up With You” arrives at a moment when audiences are responding positively to nostalgia-infused collaborations. Established artists with proven chemistry, such as O’Donis and Akon, are finding new resonance with listeners seeking authenticity and familiarity in contemporary music.

O’Donis’ evolution from Motown prodigy to Grammy-nominated artist underscores his adaptability and staying power in an ever-changing industry. His renewed alliance with Akon not only rekindles a successful partnership but also highlights both artists’ continued relevance in today’s digital streaming era.
