Brazil has warned Venezuela to avoid unilateral actions due to the situation with Guyana

President of Brazil Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, He took advantage of a phone call he received from his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, this Saturday to express South America’s concern over the growing tension stemming from the dispute with Guyana over the Essequibo region.

The Brazilian progressive leader told Maduro the “growing concern of South American countries over the Essequibo issue; “He explained the terms of the declaration on this matter, which was approved on Thursday at the Mercosur summit, and reminded him of the long tradition of dialogue in Latin America, and that we are a region of peace,” the Brazilian Presidency said in a statement.

Brazil’s president, who has always been a key ally of Venezuela, has offered to accept mediation by the current interim president. Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The leaders expressed their deep concern “Elevated tensions” between Venezuela and Guyana; “They warned that unilateral actions should be avoided, which add to tension, and that “both sides should negotiate and seek a peaceful solution to the dispute to avoid unilateral attempts to aggravate it.”
