Avianca will permanently operate four weekly flights from Puerto Rico to Medellin

Due to the success of the direct route between Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, in Isla Verde, to Medellin, Colombia, the airline Avianca announced during the International Tourism Fair held in Spain that It will begin operating permanently with four weekly flights starting April 1, 2024.

These flights began last December, but as a “temporary” measure. However, it was stated in a press release that The SJU-MDE route has seen high demand, cementing itself as the only direct flight option for passengers traveling between the two cities.

“The expansion of the direct route between San Juan and Medellin represents an estimated economic impact of over $5.7 million for our island and will add 37,800 seats to the island,” expressed Carlos Mercado Santiago, CEO of Tourism Puerto Rico (CTPR). Air inventory.

“Avianca’s decision to convert this seasonal route into a permanent year-round flight reflects confidence in the potential for tourism and business exchange between the two destinations, which will, without a doubt, enhance connectivity in the region, and will bring significant benefits to both destinations, visitors and our local economy. The route operated by the A320-100/200 will not only provide greater flexibility for passengers, but will also contribute to the economic development of both destinations.

For his part, Rolando Damas, Avianca Sales Director for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, emphasized that “with the permanent operation of our direct flight between San Juan and Medellin, we want to strengthen connectivity in Latin America and on this occasion, offer Puerto Ricans a direct and convenient option to reach one of the most Attractive Destinations in Colombia Likewise, we will continue to expand our operations and provide more convenient flight options for our passengers.

This year Avianca celebrates the 11th anniversary of resuming operations to and from Puerto Rico. Since then, the airline has tripled its capacity on the island.
