The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled this Thursday that in 2018, along with several other countries, they condemned a number of cases related to the grave human rights violations ruled by Nicolas Maduro before the International Criminal Court (ICC). They are crimes against humanity.

The letter was signed by the governments of Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Argentina, and later led by Mauricio Macri.Reports prepared by international experts documenting illegal processes, torture and arbitrary detention in the framework of anti-government protests in Venezuela.

“The move supports the ICC’s decision to launch an initial inquiry into Venezuela’s situation on its own initiative,” Canadian embassy officials said in a statement.

And they: “The International Criminal Court has our full support and trust. Canada will continue to work with all partners to support the work of the ICC in this investigation.. We call on Venezuela to cooperate with the court. Those who commit international crimes must face justice. ”

The statement from Canadian diplomacy came a day later Argentina withdrew from the 2018 case before the ICC against the Savista dictatorship, which this Thursday sparked controversy between the government of Alberto Fernandez and the opposition..

Upon hearing this news, the interim leader of Venezuela, Juan Quito condemns Argentine President Alberto Fernandes for withdrawing the case.

”A few weeks later, the Venezuelan government is trying to establish an opinion matrix, with a decision being made on whether to open a proper investigation into crimes against humanity in the country, according to the ICC’s own prosecutor’s office.. Prevent damage in the event of an adverse outcome? The NGO said in a statement.

Among the promoters of the “campaign”, the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, pointed out in early May that the ICC was “using information created by Boots with false claims as a source of tweets”.

The organization recalls that the Chapin report contradicted the report released in December 2020, when, After a visit to the agency’s headquarters in The Hague, he said, “Venezuela has always shown recognition and support for the International Criminal Court.””.
