Dominican Republic begins pre-Olympic baseball training

The Dominican Republic began its training sessions on Tuesday with the aim of creating the best baseball team to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

“We have an interesting team and many Dominicans who do not have a contract in the United States have responded to the call to be part of the team,” said Jose Gomez, general manager of the Dominican team.

“We have a large team because some of them can get jobs, others can learn from accident and past mistakes, because we did not call a small team, but we have two teams and we plan to add two players. Some baseball players are the best team to represent the country. They have arranged to have, ”he said.

Team captain Fernando Toddis, who is in the United States with his son, did not attend first-day training and has been sidelined since Monday 5 after recovering from a shoulder injury.

“We hope to get Fernando next week, meanwhile Wilton Veras is in charge of the procedures. We have Manche Garcia and Anderson Hernandez as pitch coaches. Later, other coaches will join,” Gomez said.

In addition to Gomez, the Dominican squad includes executives from winter teams Daniel Rufenach (Lycee), Oliver Arias, (stars), Louis Manuel Sanchez (Giants) and Hector Borg (Bulls).
