The Sanmartiniano de Corrientes Institute together with some residents of the city began a campaign to obtain a physical space in which a collection of military objects can be permanently exhibited. Among these is, for example, the bayonet that killed Sergeant Cabral from behind, in the historic battle of San Lorenzo.

“I am trying to get the State to grant me a place for the Museo del Libertador, with a collection of 33 historical uniforms and unique and unrepeatable elements,” the president of the Sanmartiniano Institute of Corrientes, Gaspar Moreno, told El Litoral.

Although this year a bill was also drafted for the Corrientes Chamber of Deputies for that purpose, its approval made no progress. Meanwhile, the traveling exhibition has already had tours in this city, in Chaco and Misiones.

The collector highlighted the historical and narrative value of the relics, since he considers them a witness to the battles of San Lorenzo, Ituzaingó and Malvinas, the civil war, among others, useful for historians, writers and documentary makers or filmmakers. “Within the territory it would be the only one in the region. This belongs to the province of Corrientes and to future generations ”, stated Moreno. To celebrate the birthday of General José de San Martín, a part of the collection was already exhibited in February, in the Capital of Corrientes and in Paso de la Patria.

The objects were partly acquired and others donated, as in the cases of those that correspond to the war for the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, since they can only be transferred by ex-combatants. At the moment, the group that promotes this project awaits proposals for a space that can contain the collection.
