Québec City garage-punk band The Carringtons return with The Reunion, a 10-track album that pairs sharp guitars and punk-rock urgency with bigger melodies, electronic textures and a more polished approach to songwriting.

Released October 2, 2026, the record arrives 12 years after the band first formed and reflects a group increasingly comfortable combining its garage-punk roots with indie rock and power-pop ambition.

The Carringtons Expand Their Garage-Punk Sound

Recorded and mixed by Adrian Popovich at Mountain City Studios in Montréal, The Reunion builds on The Carringtons’ established guitar-driven sound while broadening its sonic range.

Synthesizers and electronic textures appear alongside layered guitars, bass and drums, while hooks that might previously have been buried beneath distortion are pushed forward. Despite the expanded production, the album retains the concise approach that has long defined the band.

Across 10 songs, The Carringtons move quickly between garage pop, indie rock, punk and power pop, with influences comparable to acts such as The Strokes, The Hives and other melody-driven alternative rock bands.

The album includes tracks such as “Emptiness,” “Embers,” “Nightfall” and “Isolation.”

A Band Building Momentum Beyond Québec

Since regrouping with a tighter lineup and renewed focus in 2023, Ben Fortier, Joey Savard, Alex Charron and Dave Chamberland have maintained a busy recording and touring schedule.

The band has performed at festivals and toured throughout Canada while expanding its presence internationally. In 2026, The Carringtons crossed the Atlantic for eight performances in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

That fast-moving approach carries into the band’s concerts, where it can fit roughly 15 songs into a 30-minute set, and into The Reunion, which emphasizes compact arrangements and immediate hooks.

The group also emerges from a long Québec garage-rock tradition that has included acts such as Les Secrétaires Volantes, The Spaceshits, Scat Rag Boosters, Les Sexareenos, CPC Gangbangs and Demon’s Claws.

While The Reunion retains that raw foundation, its melodic approach pushes beyond traditional garage-rock boundaries.

Adrian Popovich Helps Broaden the Production

Producer and engineer Adrian Popovich brings extensive Canadian rock experience to the album. A former member of garage-rock group Tricky Woo and guitarist and vocalist with American Lips, Popovich has also been connected through recording and production work with artists including Sam Roberts, The Dears and Sebastien Grainger.

His production allows The Carringtons to experiment without losing the directness of their songs. Electronic elements and additional textures expand the traditional guitar-bass-drums setup while keeping the melodies prominent.

Creative director Hugo Mudie, longtime frontman of The Sainte Catherines, also contributed to arrangements and ideas for the record. Marc-André Beaudet handled mastering.

Together, the team helped shape a record positioned between garage punk, indie rock and power pop while giving the band’s increasingly mature songwriting more room to develop.

“Emptiness” Highlights the Band’s Evolution

Release-week focus track “Emptiness” offers one of the clearest examples of The Carringtons’ evolving style.

Running exactly two minutes, the song tackles regret and emotional emptiness without abandoning the band’s preference for speed and immediacy. Its narrator moves through a sense of personal wreckage before reaching one of the album’s most prominent refrains: “I would like to start a revolution, but I lost my mind somewhere.”

The track maintains the compact energy associated with the band’s earlier material while introducing a broader emotional scope.

Heavier Themes Meet Bigger Choruses

That contrast appears throughout The Reunion. Song titles including “Trust,” “Hope,” “Romance,” “Isolation” and “Obsession” signal a shift toward heavier and more introspective subjects.

Rather than responding with slower or more elaborate compositions, The Carringtons continue relying on melody, distortion and concise arrangements. Electronic elements widen the sound, while large choruses give several tracks a scale suited to audiences beyond the small clubs and basement venues associated with garage punk.

The result is less a reinvention than an expansion of what the band has developed over more than a decade.

A New Chapter for The Carringtons

Despite its title, The Reunion is not simply a nostalgic return. The Carringtons already completed their comeback after regrouping in 2023; the new album instead documents what followed.

By preserving the immediacy, hooks and DIY instincts at the center of their music while embracing larger production and more mature songwriting, the Québec City band has found a way to broaden its sound without abandoning its garage-punk foundation.

With The Reunion, The Carringtons sound less concerned with defining what kind of band they should be and more focused on making concise, energetic rock songs with enough hooks to reach well beyond the rooms where they started.
