Goya Foods is set to mark its 90th anniversary with a nationwide philanthropic initiative, pledging to distribute one million pounds of food to communities across the United States as part of its “Goya Gives Day” campaign.

The event, scheduled for Tuesday, 31 March 2026—the 90th day of the year—will serve as both a symbolic milestone and a large-scale corporate social responsibility effort, reflecting the company’s long-standing emphasis on community engagement and food assistance.

At the centre of the initiative will be activities at the company’s headquarters in Jersey City, New Jersey, where more than 200 volunteers are expected to assemble and distribute thousands of food packages. Participants include representatives from non-profit organisations, local businesses, and law enforcement bodies, highlighting a broad coalition of community stakeholders.

Senior leadership from Goya Foods, including President Peter Unanue and National Director of Public Relations Rafael Toro, will attend the event alongside regional political figures such as Jersey City Mayor James Solomon and Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. Local authorities are expected to formally recognise the occasion by declaring “Goya Gives Day” in honour of the company’s 90-year contribution to community development.

The initiative extends well beyond New Jersey. According to organisers, Goya facilities and more than 100 partner organisations will participate in coordinated efforts spanning multiple locations, including Madrid, Seville, Puerto Rico, California, Texas, Florida, and Chicago. The scale of the operation underscores the company’s international footprint and its ability to mobilise resources across diverse regions.

The campaign comes at a time when food insecurity remains a significant issue in the United States. Data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture indicates that approximately 47 million Americans live in food-insecure households, with around 13.5% of households experiencing food insecurity at some point במהלך the year. These figures highlight the ongoing demand for both public and private sector interventions aimed at improving access to essential food supplies.

Goya’s initiative positions the company within a growing cohort of corporations seeking to address social challenges through targeted philanthropic programmes. By leveraging its distribution network and partnerships, the company aims to deliver immediate relief while reinforcing longer-term commitments to community support.

Volunteers participating in the Jersey City event will represent a wide array of organisations, including community groups, faith-based institutions, and professional associations. Among them are Blacks in Law Enforcement Servicing the Community, Catholic Charities of New York, the Hispanic Americans in Law Enforcement Association, and the New York City Football Club Community Impact Team. Their involvement reflects a collaborative approach that brings together civic, corporate, and grassroots actors.

The event will also be accessible to media organisations, with press coverage scheduled between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Broadcasters will have the option to stream or report from multiple participating locations across the country, enabling wider visibility for the initiative.

Founded in 1936, Goya Foods has grown into one of the largest Hispanic-owned food companies in the United States, with a strong presence in both domestic and international markets. Its product portfolio spans a wide range of grocery categories, and its brand has become closely associated with Hispanic culinary traditions.

The 90th anniversary campaign serves not only as a celebration of the company’s commercial success but also as a reaffirmation of its founding principles. By aligning its milestone with a nationwide act of giving, Goya is seeking to reinforce its identity as a community-focused organisation.

As businesses increasingly face scrutiny over their social impact, initiatives such as “Goya Gives Day” illustrate how corporate anniversaries can be leveraged to deliver tangible benefits beyond the balance sheet. For Goya Foods, the campaign represents both a retrospective celebration and a forward-looking commitment to addressing one of the most pressing social issues in the markets it serves.
