West Woodward Airport is set to formally unveil a new terminal building and a suite of major infrastructure improvements next month, marking a significant milestone in the development of aviation and business connectivity in western Oklahoma. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, 13 February 2026, bringing together state officials, local leaders, aviation stakeholders and members of the public to celebrate the completion of projects designed to modernise the airport and expand its economic role.

The event is being jointly hosted by West Woodward Airport and the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA). The ceremony will take place at the airport’s site at 1301 Air Park Road in Woodward, with fly-in arrivals encouraged from 9:30 a.m. local time. Formal remarks will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. and networking over light refreshments.

The developments represent one of the most substantial rounds of investment at the airport in recent years and reflect a broader strategy to strengthen infrastructure in rural communities while supporting long-term economic growth.

New Facilities Designed to Support Growth

At the centre of the project is a new terminal building, accompanied by a redesigned parking lot intended to improve access and passenger experience. The terminal is expected to provide upgraded facilities for pilots, passengers and visiting business operators, aligning the airport more closely with the needs of modern general and corporate aviation.

In addition to the terminal, the airport has completed a corporate box hangar and apron, expanding its capacity to accommodate business aircraft and provide revenue-generating aircraft storage. A south taxilane and new access road have also been constructed, improving airside efficiency and ground connectivity across the airport site.

Supporting infrastructure has been installed alongside these headline projects, including the construction of utilities to serve future terminal and hangar development. Together, these upgrades are intended not only to meet current demand but also to provide a platform for further expansion as aviation activity in the region grows.

PREP Funding and Statewide Economic Strategy

The projects have been funded through Oklahoma’s Preserving Rural Economic Prosperity (PREP) programme, a state initiative established by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2022. The fund is designed to support infrastructure investment, workforce development and economic diversification in rural areas, where access to modern facilities can be a decisive factor in attracting business activity.

By directing PREP funding toward aviation infrastructure, state and local authorities aim to enhance regional connectivity and position airports such as West Woodward as catalysts for wider economic development. Improved aviation facilities are increasingly seen as essential assets for rural economies, supporting sectors ranging from energy and agriculture to manufacturing and professional services.

According to local officials, the upgrades at West Woodward Airport are expected to increase operational capacity, attract new aviation-related businesses and support higher levels of corporate and private aircraft traffic. This, in turn, is intended to generate additional revenue streams for the airport while contributing to job creation and investment across the wider region.

City of Woodward’s Long-Term Vision

The City of Woodward has identified aviation infrastructure as a key component of its long-term economic strategy. By expanding storage capacity and improving facilities for business aviation, the city aims to strengthen its appeal to companies that rely on efficient air access for executives, technical staff and time-sensitive operations.

Local leaders have emphasised that the airport improvements are not a standalone project but part of a broader effort to ensure the region remains competitive and well connected. Enhanced airport facilities can reduce travel times, support inward investment and provide critical links for businesses operating across large geographic areas.

Event Details and Public Access

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to the public, with admission free of charge. Organisers have indicated that advance registration is appreciated to assist with planning. Registration can be completed online via Eventbrite at the following link:

The agenda includes welcoming remarks, formal comments from stakeholders, the ribbon-cutting itself and an opportunity for attendees to network and view the new facilities. Fly-in visitors are encouraged to arrive early, with coffee and refreshments available from 9:30 a.m.

As regional airports across the United States compete to modernise and diversify their roles, West Woodward Airport’s latest investment underscores the growing importance of targeted public funding in shaping sustainable economic futures for rural communities.
