The noble hall of the isolated palace, packed with family, friends and colleagues, as well as many politicians, whether active or not, as well as other authorities – was the setting yesterday for the Cabildo of Tenerife to pay tribute to two Tenerife residents who have distinguished themselves in their long lives and careers in defense of the environment. and the biodiversity of his island with Teide National Park as the focus and center of his efforts: Wilfredo Feldbret de la Torre (S/C de Tenerife, 1933) and Isidoro Sánchez García (La Orotava, 1942).

Isidoro and Isidoro, Isidoro and Alfredo, They were the great heroes From this event organized on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Teide National Park. They received the affection and compliments of all, but they were subjects and subjects of that honor which was also bestowed upon them in life. Details to keep in mind.

In 1954, when Teide was declared a national park, Isidoro was 12 years old while Wilfredo was a young man of 21. But both have already declared their love, or almost passion, for the island of Las Cañadas and its entire surroundings.

The President of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Davila, presided; Vice President Lope Afonso; Prime Minister of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and Francisco Linares, Mayor of La Orotava.

“This is a very special day for Tenerife and for the Canary Islands, because, with our eyes turned to Teide – a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007 – we deservedly pay tribute to two exceptional personalities who have dedicated their lives to defending, conserving, studying and disseminating our natural resources,” Rosa Davila emphasized. They are true ambassadors of our world landscapes and guardians of our biodiversity.” Dávila highlighted his career as a national park conservationist and noted botanist

Fernando Clavijo highlighted both figures “since meteorology, geology, biology, botany, geography, astronomy and volcanology are sciences that cannot be understood without TED.”

Salute to our best knowledge

The mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares, intervened on behalf of all the municipalities bordering the park. He thanked, among other things, the work done by Sanchez and Wildbright “Two intellectuals, nobles and prominent citizens of Tenerife.”

For his part, the Vice President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, noted that they are “two outstanding men on the island. It is a just honor that makes, if possible, the name of Tide and Tenerife.”

During the event, videos were shown containing images and words from Sanchez and Wildbright. The first spoke about his extensive relationship with Mount Teide since he was 12 years old when he looked out the window of his grandfather’s house and saw it. He perfected it in one sentence: “The distance from earth to heaven is the same as the distance from La Orotava to Teide.”

“In TED, I'm in another world,” Wildbreth recalls. I have been a member of the Board of Trustees for over 50 years, and I am proud of that. “She gives me great comfort and care, and her visit is always a boost of energy.”
