Ruben Blades leads signatures for commemorative stamp of great composer ‘Tide’ Curet – El Nacional

SAN JUAN.- Panamanian salsero Ruben Blades and other artists and cultural organizations from Puerto Rico have signed a letter asking the US Postal Service to create a stamp in 2026 in honor of legendary Puerto Rican musician ‘Tide’ Garrett. In honor of the 100th anniversary of Alonzo’s birth.

So, Rodríguez took on the task of getting autographs from some famous Latin figures such as Blades, the respective executive directors of the Puerto Rican Cultural Institute and Ateneo Puerto Rico, Carlos Ruiz and Hamid Ghalib, as well as the musician and director. Likewise, Rodríguez hopes to get the signatures of famous Puerto Rican artists Ricky Martin, Benicio del Toro and Gilberto Santa Rosa, baseball immortal Ivan Rodríguez and Edgar Martinez, president of Puerto Rico’s Olympic Committee, and Sarah. The respective Legislative Leaders of the island.

“This is ‘Tide”s rooted dedication and commitment to patriotism. We want to perpetuate all of his music and life’s work,” emphasized Rodriguez.

Curate Alonso died of respiratory arrest on August 5, 2003 at the age of 77 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore (Maryland, USA).

In addition to his own songs, the singer wrote lyrics in Spanish for songs recorded by Wilkins, such as the Charlie Chaplin film of the same name or his version of ‘If I’m Rich’, ‘Candlejas’. Puerto Rican Chucho Avelanete’s The Violinist on the Roof.
