Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrates the Cuban delegation’s 30th gold medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile on Saturday., which contributed to the women’s 4×400 relay. He described it as a “proud day for the country”. And he said: “There are debts, but Cuban sport has a lot of future.”

That CommentA post on his profile on the social network added This allowed him to secure fifth place in the overall medal table, compared to sixth place in Lima 2019. The medal tally was just ahead of sixth-placed Colombia with 29 golds.

After the last speed skating and basque pelota competitions, Cuba’s performance at the Pan American Games officially ended on Sunday morning. In this last category, a silver was achieved, number 22. Cuba’s total of 69 medals was completed with 17 bronze medals.

To give you a comparative idea, Sixth-placed Colombia won 101 metals, 29 gold, 38 silver and 34 bronze.

This fifth place was similar to the island’s 1963 IV Pan American Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since then, except for 1991, Cuba has been second to the United States for decades on the medal list. , while headquartered in Havana, Cuban athletes won 140 titles, ten more than the northern country.

From that day to today The decline of Cuban sport at the Pan American Games is notable in its collection of titles and medal tables.

In Santiago de Chile, the United States again dominated, followed by Brazil, Mexico and Canada. Despite triumphs in athletics and wrestling, a podium finish in baseball and two titles in boxing, here behind Canada and Colombia, it qualified as a modest finish for Cuba.
