The conquest of space is one of the goals humanity has set for itself over the years, that final frontier between our planet and everything else in the universe is a great unknown, filled with countless wonders, and celestial bodies so large that they are mind-blowing. Some really catastrophic events.

Because it is an unknown, scientists have closely studied the various events that gave rise to galaxies, as well as planets. Hypotheses vary and increase with the advancement of technology that allows for a closer study of certain phenomena.

And here are some of the events that sparked the observations of scientists and astronomers because of their special and terrifying properties.

Colliding with the Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda Galaxy captured by ZTRF.

She may be 2.5 million light-years from Earth, but Andromeda, The largest galaxy in our solar system is on a terrifying pathIt is heading directly towards our galaxy, the Milky Way, and will collide with it one day.

However, just before that could happen, it would dominate the night sky.. Fortunately, Andromeda won’t arrive for another 3 to 5 billion years.

Giant comet arrives

The appearance of the largest comet in history in our solar system in 2021 is terrifying. Comet C/2014 UN271 has a diameter of 137 kilometers, has an ice core 50 times larger than the previous record, and its mass is 100,000 times that of a medium-sized comet. It is so big that it was initially classified as a minor planet.

Luckily, This massive snowball is expected to approach a distance of no more than 1.6 billion km from Earth When it reaches its closest point in 2031. However, could there be more dangerous comets? Which science has not been able to answer so far.

Consequences of a major solar storm

The Earth is constantly being bombarded with high-energy particles from the sun. Most of the time, the planet’s magnetic field deflects these solar attacks.

However, from time to time, magnetic anomalies within our star realign and cause a solar flare. It is a sudden flash of light that shoots incredible amounts of X-rays and energy in all directions, traveling at the speed of light.

solar storm. They can generate a general blackout of all communications.

The result could be an interruption in navigation and communications signals. Another scenario is a coronal mass ejection, which is a slow burner that sends magnetized particles out into space.

If this goes to Earth, and after a few days geomagnetic storms occur that can disrupt communications and power grids.

The most powerful geomagnetic storm in modern history, known as the Carrington Event, occurred in 1859, before the modern era of technology.

If a Carrington-sized storm hits now, it will cause an internet apocalypse, power outages that may last for several months. However, the probability of a solar storm with these characteristics is estimated to range between 1.6% and 12% per decade.
