SEATTLE — Max Kepler scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the eighth inning and Minnesota pitchers rallied for 14 runs as the Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 6-3.
Kepler scored from third when reliever Andres Munoz’s (2-3) pitch flew out to catcher Tom Murphy. Kepler also hit a solo shot off Luis Castillo.
Ryan Jeffers led off the Twins with a single in the first inning. Rookie Julian and Kepler made it 3-0 with home runs in the fifth.
The Mariners tied it with a pair of home runs. Tom Murphy homered off Twins starter Kenta Maeda in the sixth inning, and Eugenio Suarez tied it with a two-run homer in the seventh against Griffin Jax.
Alex Grilloff hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Devin Sweet in the pitcher’s major league debut.
Emilio Bacon (4-1) won. Jon Duran pitched a scoreless ninth for his 16th save.
Maeda struck out nine for Minnesota. Castillo struck out a season-high 11 as the Mariners matched the Twins with 14.
For doubles, Puerto Rican Carlos Correa 5-0, Willie Castro 5-2.
For the Mariners, Venezuelan Eugenio Suarez went 4-1 with one run and two RBI. Dominicans Teoscar Hernandez 3-0; and Julio Rodriguez 3-0.
