President Donald Trump continues to criticize Germany because its defense budget is less than 2% of its GDP, a target set by the North Atlantic Alliance for its member states.
In an interview with the German public radio station (Deutschlandfunk), Mass said he did not think the issue would be as focused on Joe Biden as it was during Donald Trump’s tenure.
The head of German diplomacy said the controversy over military spending would not end during Biden’s administration, but would take place in a different fashion.
For his part, German Economy Minister Peter Altmeyer expressed concern that US uncertainty over the recent presidential election would continue for months, meaning that Washington’s policy direction would not be clear until next spring.
When asked by Deutschlandfunk if he believes trade disputes will end during Joe Biden’s presidency, he replied that the German figure will return to strong diversity in his opinion.
He described it as an essential step in bringing the United States back to the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The U.S. media declared Joe Biden the winner of the Nov. 3 election with 273 large voters, thanks to the victory of the key state of Pennsylvania. Biden will become the 46th President of the United States.
