The situation of water supply in the capital of Cuba is becoming more and more complicated. By the end of this Monday, more than 200,000 consumers had no access to the precious liquid. By the way, Aguas de La Habana predicts new cuts in the coming days.

According to the local newspaper, Tribuna de la Habana, several aspects are influencing the current crisis. One of them is the number of breakdowns in pumping equipment due to power outages in recent days. Another factor against this is the fall in surface reservoirs in the first half of June.

This month, in Havana, electrical storms caused serious breaks in 158 water supply systems. Of that total, 74 arose in the past week.

Answer from Aguas de La Habana

Faced with such a situation, the Aguas de La Habana company proposes several strategies to reduce service interruption time. The main variation is the restoration of eight pumping equipment and installation of water tanks wherever possible.

In the same way, professionals monitor and provide maintenance to infrastructure to minimize damage caused by lightning. Meanwhile, wells in each area are used to supply residential areas.

Aguas de la Habana also said the company will receive 12 new pumping machines in July. Through this, the water supply system in the capital should be ensured.

The Ariguanabo system has been one of the hardest hit in recent weeks due to the impact of power outages. Therefore, the municipalities affected by the supply crisis are Playa, Mariano and La Lisa.

Meanwhile, Old Havana and Centro Habana, in the heart of the capital, are the hardest hit. However, there were also disruptions in Plaza de la Revolución, Cerro and Diez de Octubre.
