Cuban infielder Yandy Diaz He is putting together what could be the best offensive season of his career thus far.
Diaz, along with Cuban Randy Arosarena, have been key pieces to the Tampa Bay Rays’ results so far in the 2023 season, and both are truly “on fire.”
This Friday May 5th, Yandy Diaz got his smile back as the ball disappeared out of the park in the first third of the game between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays.
The bottom of the third inning was played, and Diaz had consumed his turn against young right-handed pitcher Johnny Brito, with no outs on the board, no one running for the bases and two runs scored in favor of the Rays. .

After pinning the West Indian hitter to the wall, Prieto guided a four-seamer fastball at 95.7 mph.
Yandy immediately took advantage of the delivery and didn’t hesitate to put the full force of his shaft into the ball.
The drive picked up an exit velocity of 102.9 mph and traveled 416 feet toward center field.
With the win, Yandy reached nine full-turn hits so far in the 2023 campaign, tied for fifth in all of MLB and joining Ozzie Albies, Randy Arozarena, Matt Olson, Brent Rooker and Rowdy Tellez.
Additionally, he ranks eighth in the entire MLB so far in batting average (.327), sixth in OBP (.430), third in slugging (.626) and second in OPS (1.056).
At the time of this writing, the game was 4 runs to zero in favor of the Tampa Rays in the bottom of the fifth inning.
