Alejandro Toledo, the former president of Peru, was arrested in a Lima prison

(CNN Spanish) — Former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo arrived at the Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima this Sunday morning and will already be incarcerated in Barbadillo prison. He underwent medical examinations by the staff of the Toledo Institute of Legal Medicine and later underwent several judicial procedures related to extradition.

At the time of his arrival, the Peruvian National Police posted on their social networks that Commander General Jorge Luis Angulo Tejada and the High Police Command had guaranteed the protection of the former president.

Peru’s former president must answer to corruption charges, which he has denied.

The prosecutor’s office explained the extradition process to Toledo

Public Ministry of Peru reported The National Prosecutor explained the extradition procedure and his fundamental rights to the former president.

Later, Alejandro Toledo will undergo a medical examination by staff of the Institute of Legal Medicine, charged with money laundering and conspiracy.

“As the central authority on extradition matters, National Prosecutor Patricia Benavides, along with Alfredo Rebaza, head of the Office of International Judicial Cooperation and Extradition, is overseeing the extradition of Alejandro Toledo.”

Toledo was taken to the headquarters of the National High Court Judicial Identity Control Process Before the court presided over by Magistrate Margarita Salcedo Guevara.

According to the state’s Andean agency, Toledo left San Francisco International Airport this Saturday for Los Angeles, where he made a stopover before heading to Lima. EFE captured the former president as he boarded a flight to Southern California this Saturday.
