Khartoum International Airport said, through its official account on the social networking site Facebook, that “the Civil Aviation Authority issues a report to pilots extending the closure of Sudanese airspace to include all civilian traffic until April 30.”

Thus, he stressed that “the armed forces warn that any violation of (Sudanese) airspace will be dealt with decisively.” Over the past hours, evacuations of foreigners have begun, so it is understandable that the warning affects flights not coordinated with the authorities.

On Friday, the Sudanese army agreed to a three-day ceasefire on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. The Rapid Support Forces had announced earlier that they would respect a truce during this period of time, although the fighting continued for hours until the announcement of the armed forces.

The hostilities erupted in a context of rising tensions over the integration of the RSF led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, nicknamed “Hemedti,” who is also the vice-chairman of the Sovereign Transitional Council — into the armed forces, which is essential. Part of an agreement signed in December to form a new civilian government and reactivate the transition.

The process of internationally mediated talks began after the army commander and head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, led a coup in October 2021 that overthrew the then Prime Minister of Unity, Abdalla Hamdok, as a result of his appointment to the post. Of the contacts between civilians and the military after the April 2019 riots that ended 30 years of rule by Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
