BALTIMORE — Ramon Urias broke a tie with a double in the seventh inning and pitched a spectacular game at third base in the eighth as the Baltimore Orioles opened their season with a 7-6 win over the New York Yankees on Friday.
Ron Marinaccio (0-1) walked Ryan Mountcastle in the seventh, stealing second when Gunner Henderson hit a strike three pass.
Jimmy Cordero then took the mound and threw a wild pitch before getting Urias’ double to left-center field to make it 6-5.
Urias then scored on Cordero’s second wild pitch.
Zional Perez (1-0) retired three of his opponents on five pitches in the seventh inning, but allowed a double and two singles to start the eighth.
Baltimore’s lead was cut to one run and with men on first and second, Brian Baker relieved Perez. After faking a punt, Jose Trevino hit a ground ball to make it 2-0. Urias caught him for a double play to make it 5 to 3.
Felix Bautista pitched a hitless ninth for his third save.
For the Yankees, Venezuela’s Clayber Torres went 3-1 with one run, while Osvaldo Cabrera was 4-3 with one run and three RBI. Dominican Francie Cordero went 1-1 with one run scored and three runs scored.
For the Orioles, Venezuelan Anthony Santander scored a run in a 5-1 victory. Mexico’s Urias made it 3-2 with two runs scored and a run pushed in. Dominican Jorge Mateo scored a run to make it 4-2.
