McDonald’s Mexico Blue Space for autistic people

McDonald’s Mexico Blue Space for autistic people

In 64 McDonald’s restaurants distributed in Mexico, there will be a “blue space”, which will be adapted so that people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can enjoy the experience of this fast food business.

With the goal of continuing to promote the inclusion of all people, the McDonald’s Mexico System, made up of Arcos Dorados and its network of franchisees, introduced this initiative as part of World Autism Awareness Day.

In the first phase, the project includes training for collaborators working in restaurants who will be identified using a blue button, as well as designing a menu with pictograms, priority table signals, visual and auditory reduction. Private sector incentives and priority in taking care of orders.

“Espacio Azul is an initiative through which we want to continue contributing to our communities, making our restaurants more inclusive spaces for people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and facilitating their experience by better understanding their needs,”

announced Francisco Bologna Holm, General Manager of Arcos Dorados Mexico.

To develop Espacio Azul, McDonald’s worked alongside Let’s Light Up for Autism, an organization founded in 2015 with the goal of implementing support actions, raising awareness, and promoting programs and public policies aimed at improving the quality of life for people with autism and their families.

“We support and accompany the implementation of the McDonald’s Blue Space Program in Mexico, which is another step to continue generating social awareness and empathy regarding the condition,” said Gerardo Gaia, Founder and CEO of Iluminemos por el Autismo.
