SAN JOSE, March 3 (elmundo.cr) – The President of the Republic, Rodrigo Chaves, called on the citizens of Costa Rica to go to health centers to receive the bivalent vaccine against COVID-19.

The President received the vaccine dose, as well as the President of the Legislative Assembly, Rodrigo Arias, the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Orlando Aguirre, and the President of the Supreme Court of Elections, Eugenia Zamora.

Chavez indicated, “This is a bivalent vaccine that protects against two strains of the virus. For me, it is the fifth vaccine, and I am infected with the Coronavirus, and I am still trying to protect myself.”

“The Government of the Republic maintains its policy of making vaccines available to the people of Costa Rica for those who wish,” he said.

The president insisted that “we also maintain our position that Covid disease should not be in the basic vaccination schedule, and therefore obtaining this vaccine should not be compulsory, which is consistent with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization.”

“In a few words, the vaccine is available but not mandatory,” said President Chavez.

“Personally, the heads of authorities and the Minister of Health have put the vaccine in front of you, as Costa Ricans say to show a button, which shows that we believe that this is what is best for the majority of the population, go get a vaccine! Consider it.”
