UCLM celebrates Science Week with over a hundred activities in schools, colleges and campuses

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is celebrating Science Week until November 17, an outreach event aimed at students of all levels, from school to university itself, through the Castilla-La Stain Institutes. In total, more than a hundred activity will fill the towns and cities of the region with science.

Bringing research and innovation closer to society, especially young people, is the main objective of the Science Week, the event that took place in Spain during the month of November and which at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) will be embodied in more than a hundred activities until next Thursday, 17 November.

Organized by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I) and funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), UCLM Science Week will mobilize hundreds of researchers and researchers who will travel to schools and institutes in Castilla-La Mancha to impart scientific activity to students in an entertaining way. In total, more than one hundred and twenty activities, some online, with simultaneous contacts, conferences, workshops and visits organized by university faculties and schools, were scheduled. As for the contents, it will address from more general issues, such as the profession of science or the role of women in scientific activity, to more specific issues, such as computer security, pollution, nanotechnology or volcanoes.

UCLM prioritized direct visits to small municipalities such as Los Cortijos (Ciudad Real), Huete (Cuenca), Liétor (Albacete) and Yunclillos (Toledo); Although Science Week will reach all provincial capitals and many cities. About seven thousand students from primary to secondary are expected to participate.

UCLM Centers

This important event for the social outreach of science will also be reflected on the campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, with interesting programs such as those prepared by the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Biochemistry of Toledo and in which the student body of the Center also participates.

For its part, the Faculty of Mining and Industrial Engineering of Almadén will cooperate in the first science conference in Guadalmez (Ciudad Real), to be held on November 11 and 12, organized by the City Council. The activity will revolve around different presentations on issues such as the circular economy and development opportunities in rural environments, geographic resources or nanotechnology in the agri-food sector, and will allow researchers from the Almaden Center to disseminate their work in the community.

Other centers with specific programs are the Polytechnic of Cuenca, the Faculty of Medicine and the Regional Center for Biomedical Research in Albacete; Faculties of Chemical Sciences and Technology, Law and Social Sciences, College of Roads, Canals and Ports of Ciudad Real and College of Humanities of Toledo.
