One method shown by records and photographs is: The effect of the explosion in the atmosphere caused a blue and orange effect in the sky until it disappeared seconds later.

Vice President of Caribbean Astronomical Society (SAC), Eddie Irizarry, In a radio interview, he confirmed that the event was reported at 11:28 p.m., and initially, it was understood to be a space rock that disintegrated north of the island.

“We’re currently evaluating different images and it’s an interesting phenomenon. Although the meteors seen on these nights are due to meteor showers, the meteor seen last night is unrelated to this shower,” the expert explained (WKAQ 580).

“It’s a space rock. Initially, we concluded that it could be a small asteroid between 3 and 16 feet in diameter, or five meters. Let’s say it’s the size of a desk or the size of a small car.”Sighted space rock mentioned.

At this time, SAC understands that debris from the rock, when it disintegrated, fell to the surface, but not into the sea.

Regarding the color seen in the sky, Irizarry said they identified an orange streak that suggests sodium is present in space rock that has penetrated the atmosphere.

“The route it took was north to northeast. The images suggest that the rock entered the atmosphere and went almost straight down because it had such a short decay. The satellite showed the largest rupture occurred 20 to 25 miles north of Quebradylas.”, he pointed out.

He also said that the meteors will continue to be seen in the coming nights, although it may not be as spectacular as last night’s event.

“There is nothing to fear, it is a part of natural phenomena. Fortunately, our atmosphere protects us,” he said.

Although National Weather Service (SNM) GLM Flash’s product on the GOES-16 satellite in San Juan, which was responsible for recording lightning in a specific area, captured the flash image at 11:29 p.m., moments after users began using it. Report a bright light in the sky.

“The GOES-16 GLM Flash product shows a flash about 30 miles north of PR at 11:29 PM last night. At the time, the public shared many videos of meteor sightings across Puerto Rico on social media. The Meteorological Agency tweeted.
