Ministry of Science will finance projects that bring scientific content closer to citizens with a fund of $ 1,930 million

After a series of meetings with different social organizations and research centers from different regions of the country, the Minister of Science, Andrés Couve, announced the start of applications to Contests for the Disclosure and Socialization of Knowledge “Public Science” through three calls: Regional Public Spaces; Disclosure Products; and Community Projects.

“Communities must be participants in the generation and dissemination of knowledge, adding value to the territories and encouraging the meeting of knowledge. Bringing science and innovation closer to citizens today prepares us as a society for the challenges that Chile will face tomorrow. To support more initiatives that promote knowledge in every corner of our country, this year we doubled the funding for the Public Science Contests, reaching $ 1,930 million in its three calls “said the Minister of Science, Andrés Couve.

“Through these competitions we want to finance the development of interdisciplinary projects, generating cultural experiences that make knowledge accessible to all people. The Public Science program seeks to contribute to the articulation of people linked to dissemination, culture and art, as well as institutions and communities. This is the ecosystem that we seek to strengthen through these competitions ”, said the head of the Science and Society Division of Ministry of Science, Rodrigo Tapia.

The Public Science Contest of Regional Public Spaces will allocate $ 960 million to projects whose objective is the development and / or implementation of spaces for the dissemination of science, technology, knowledge and innovation through memorable experiences open to the public. One project per region will be selected.

The Public Science Contest of Outreach Products will allocate $ 810 million to original projects of maximum $ 30 million that have as objective the creation and / or production of audiovisual material, animations, scenic works, shows, games and video games, applications for mobile devices, podcasts and publications (books, magazines) with scientific content.

The National Public Science Contest of Community Projects will allocate $ 160 million to projects with a maximum of $ 8 million that seek to solve problems and / or generate knowledge based on the needs and interests of community organizations -such as neighborhood associations or territorial organizations-, promoting their participation and work with institutions and / or specialists linked to science, technology, knowledge and innovation such as research centers and universities.

From July 9 until August 16, the bases and the inquiry form for the application will be available on the site www.cienciapublica.cl/concursos.

Applications must be submitted through the platform www.fondos.gob.cl accessing with the Unique Password.

The only official access route to make inquiries about the application process will be the form available at www.cienciapublica.cl/concursos until July 29.
