Mexico grants political asylum to former Minister of Public Works Jerson Martinez

The announcement was made by his bodyguard, Pedro Cruz, who said he could not be arrested or deported because of international law protection.

“Mr. Jerson Martinez has been granted refugee status due to political persecution in the state of Mexico,” said Pedro Cruz, the former officer’s bodyguard after appealing against the arrest warrant issued by the Second Peace Court.

Martinez was accused by the Office of the Illegal General of receiving bonuses as public servants in the first government of the left-wing Fmln party.

“The Mexican government has taken good steps to examine the data in this case, as well as the political, legislative and judicial situation in the country as a whole. , ”Said Cruz.

Cruz argued that the criminal case against Martinez “did not have a very strong grip and that he was the object of this protection, as circumstances contrary to the law were considered and valued in other countries.”

With refugee status due to political persecution, Martinez will be protected from possible red tape and extradition to the country.

“With this, the red cycle process will be discontinued and any handover effort will be discontinued because our client, through the timely implementation process, already has international legal protection,” Cruise said.
