Customers affected by the reduction in AT&T phone service will be compensated

After thousands of people in the United States were left isolated from the outside world last Thursday, phone company AT&T said it would compensate its customers after a wireless network failure caused a 12-hour outage of phone and internet service in some areas.

“To remedy this situation, we have contacted potentially affected customers and automatically credited their accounts,” the company added.

According to AT&T, those affected will receive a $5 credit to their AT&T WirelessSM account. “We will pay them the average cost of a full day of service,” the company explained in a statement.

Offer does not apply to AT&T Business, AT&T Prepaid, or Cricket. The company explained that the compensation balance will be applied over two billing cycles.

“We are taking steps to prevent this from happening again in the future. Our priority is continuous improvement and ensuring our customers stay connected,” he added.

AT&T said the hours-long US mobile network outage appeared to be the result of a technical error rather than a malicious attack.
