Science Fiction One of the genres with the largest number of followers In the world of cinema, literature and video games. The list of works that we can enjoy is not only very wide, but also includes some of the most influential names in history such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Mass Effect or The Time Machine, among others.

It is common to see all kinds of works on this subject centered on a cause so great that we can hardly imagine it: voyages into interstellar space, expeditions in search of other forms of life, cataclysms that endanger humanity … Other occasions arise in which Greatness is in the little things. Or rather, in everyday things.

This is the situation The movie we recommend today: Another Earth. A film that needs very little to trap us in an uncomfortable, understated environment in which silence is the main sound of the most important moments. The premise is very attractive, because it puts us in a scenario where MIT has just been discovered A duplicate of planet Earth that looks just like us on paper.

However, what makes Other Earths a movie so special is that the science fiction context is only the tip of the iceberg, since The cornerstone of the story is the relationship between its two protagonists, Rhoda and John. Two people were forever united by the fateful night on which scientists announced the aforementioned discovery. Some of the more interesting topics are the concepts of the alter ego and being in the right place and time…or the wrong one.

Why are you watching it:

  • science fiction with a different point of view and a much less hero than usual; Instead of traveling into space and being curious to see if something is out there, it explores the desire to leave Earth as a way to escape from the problems inherent in man.
  • Interpretation by Burt Marling, who also participated in the screenplay for the special. In Rhoda’s skin, she manages to shine as a character called to survive and constantly improve.
  • He very carefully – and successfully – dives into such elements as depression, resentment and guilt, among others.
  • One of those endings that leads to a thousand and one debates. For better or for worse, it doesn’t go unnoticed and is an invitation to consider.

Where do you see it?: Disney +, Rakuten TV, Google Play Movies, and Apple TV
