A self-sufficient city that depends as little as possible on the materials to be built from Earth: these are two of the key characteristics of the future Nava, a city that will run a human colony on Mars.

Tetrell is behind the project of this imaginary city created within the framework of the call made by The Mars Society. The team is made up of the creators of the Abhibu Studio Architecture Studio and the Sustainable of the World Network (SONET) community, which includes 35 experts from a variety of disciplines, including architecture, astronomy, aeronautics and biotechnology. All leaders in their respective fields.

175 different projects have been put forward for Mars cities this year, and it was selected as one of nine finalists in a competition won by MIT last year.

A report on the matter, published by the Claren newspaper, describes the metropolitan area as being able to accommodate up to 250,000 people and be ready by 2100.

To avoid the effects of radiation and temperature several degrees below zero, the Nava system will be underground. It will be embedded in the Tempe Mensa cliff and built vertically.

On its Instagram account, Abibu Studio provides details about the city’s properties:

“The city of Nava – he points out – is located on one side of Mars Hill, with plenty of water access, located in Tempe Mensa.” Macro-buildings “Excavations into the cliff. These constructions, which will be implemented after the construction of the tunnel, include modular and residential and work activities connected by a three-dimensional tunnel network to create an emotional connection with the earth. There are varieties: they allow for human presence and function as parks, and include experimental plants in Martian atmospheric environments. “

As for construction materials, each trip to Earth takes about 6 months and the cost of carrying more weight greatly increases the budget, making it necessary to find other solutions.

It includes a map to see what ingredients can be obtained and how much energy a citizen has to spend to obtain them.

Although estimates indicate that they are 100 times more expensive than Earth, the project should be sustainable and should not create too much carbon footprint on Earth or be a prey for the Mars system.

The idea is to establish a line of contact with our planet. Thus, there will be one round trip to Earth every 26 months. For this trip, it will cost 000 300,000.
