Joby Aviation will bring its 2026 Electric Skies Tour to Oklahoma City on September 29, offering Oklahoma government officials and aerospace industry representatives a closer look at autonomous aircraft technology and its potential applications across commercial, emergency response and defense operations.

The invitation-only advanced aviation demonstration will be held in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace & Aeronautics at AAR Hangar 2 at OKC Will Rogers International Airport. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the aircraft expected to depart between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. for the tour’s next destination.

Joby to Demonstrate Autonomous J208 Aircraft

A central focus of the Oklahoma City event will be Joby Aviation’s autonomous J208 aircraft, a modified Cessna Grand Caravan equipped with a supervised autonomy system.

The demonstration is intended to show how autonomous technologies can be incorporated into existing aircraft and aviation operating environments. Potential applications identified for the technology include regional logistics, emergency response, defense and other missions requiring aviation capabilities that can operate safely at scale.

Attendees will be able to inspect the J208 aircraft and its associated technology while hearing from state and aviation industry leaders about developments in advanced aviation.

The program will also include a demonstration of Joby’s portable Air Operations Center. Participants are expected to watch the J208 taxi before departing Oklahoma City at the conclusion of the event.

Representatives from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace & Aeronautics, Joby Aviation, state and legislative leadership, and aerospace and aviation industry organizations are expected to attend. Additional speakers are scheduled to be announced.

Oklahoma Participates in Advanced Air Mobility Initiative

Oklahoma’s involvement in the demonstration is tied to its participation in the State of Utah’s uFLY: America’s AAM Crossroads to the West eVTOL Integrated Pilot Program, or eIPP.

The federal initiative is designed to accelerate the safe integration of advanced air mobility technologies into the National Airspace System. The Oklahoma City tour stop will highlight the state’s participation in the uFLY coalition and its broader efforts to support testing and integration of emerging aviation systems.

Advanced air mobility encompasses a range of developing technologies and aircraft concepts intended to expand how passengers and cargo can be transported. Autonomous flight systems are among the technologies being evaluated as the aviation industry considers new approaches to regional transportation, logistics and specialized missions.

For Oklahoma, participation also aligns with the state’s established aerospace and aviation sector and efforts to attract additional development and testing activity involving next-generation aircraft.

Oklahoma’s Aerospace Infrastructure Supports Technology Development

Oklahoma is home to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, a major federal aviation facility that supports functions including training, logistics and aviation safety activities.

The state has also been working to expand its advanced air mobility ecosystem, positioning Oklahoma as a location where companies and government organizations can develop, evaluate and eventually integrate emerging aviation technologies.

The Electric Skies Tour stop provides state officials and industry professionals with an opportunity to examine how supervised autonomous systems could function in aircraft based on existing aviation platforms rather than only in newly designed aircraft.

Using the modified Cessna Grand Caravan also provides a practical demonstration of how autonomy technology could potentially be introduced into operational environments already familiar to aviation operators.

Oklahoma City Stop Scheduled for September 29

The Joby Aviation 2026 Electric Skies Tour event will take place Tuesday, September 29, at AAR Hangar 2 at OKC Will Rogers International Airport.

The two-hour program will combine aircraft viewing, technology demonstrations and discussions with government and industry representatives before the J208 departs Oklahoma City.

The demonstration comes as Oklahoma continues to participate in initiatives focused on advanced air mobility and the integration of emerging aircraft technologies into the National Airspace System. The Oklahoma City stop is expected to give state and industry leaders a direct look at autonomous aviation systems as testing and development efforts continue across the United States.
