Our Blood Institute (OBI) is encouraging more people to donate blood this summer by launching its $10K Vacay Giveaway, a promotional campaign that gives eligible donors the opportunity to win a $10,000 vacation package to a destination of their choice while helping strengthen the regional blood supply.

The campaign, announced on July 20, is designed to increase blood donations during a period when blood centers often experience seasonal shortages due to travel, vacations and changes in donor availability. Individuals who donate at any OBI donor center or participating mobile blood drive through July 31 will automatically be entered into the drawing for the grand prize.

The giveaway allows the winner to choose how they use the vacation package, whether for a beach escape, a mountain retreat, a family trip to a popular theme park or an international adventure. The initiative combines a community health effort with an added incentive aimed at attracting both returning and first-time donors.

In addition to being entered into the vacation giveaway, successful donors will receive a limited-edition T-shirt while supplies last. Participants will also receive one complimentary admission ticket to Frontier City, Hurricane Harbor or Magic Springs, subject to promotional availability.

The campaign is intended to remind eligible donors that a single blood donation can make a meaningful difference for patients requiring transfusions during emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatments and other medical procedures. Blood donations remain an essential resource for hospitals, and supplies must be continually replenished because donated blood has a limited shelf life.

As part of the promotion, OBI is encouraging community members to schedule appointments before the campaign concludes at the end of July.

“Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to win a dream vacation package!”

While the vacation package serves as the headline incentive, the organization emphasized that the primary goal remains increasing the number of blood donations available for patients in need throughout the communities it serves.

The promotion is available to eligible donors who complete a successful donation during the campaign period. According to the organization, prize availability is limited and may change without notice.

Individuals interested in donating should also be aware that eligibility requirements apply. Healthy individuals 16 years of age or older may donate blood, provided they meet the organization’s health and weight requirements. Blood donations may generally be made every 56 days, while platelet donations can be made as frequently as every seven days, with a maximum of 24 platelet donations each year.

The organization also outlined additional age-specific eligibility requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must weigh at least 125 pounds and provide signed parental permission before donating. Seventeen-year-old donors must also weigh at least 125 pounds, while adults aged 18 and older must weigh at least 110 pounds. A valid photo identification is required at the time of donation.

OBI said appointments can be scheduled online or by telephone, although walk-in availability may vary by donation location.

The summer campaign reflects a broader effort by blood collection organizations to maintain stable inventories during months when donation rates often fluctuate. Seasonal incentive programs have become a common strategy for encouraging participation while reminding the public of the ongoing need for blood donations.

With the July 31 deadline approaching, OBI is encouraging eligible donors to participate in the campaign, support local patients and take advantage of the opportunity to be entered into the drawing for the $10,000 vacation package, while also receiving additional promotional rewards available during the event.
