DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and RecruitMilitary® will jointly host a virtual hiring event aimed at supporting employment outcomes for the US military community, as organisations continue to highlight the economic value of veteran talent to employers across multiple sectors.
The Transitioning Service Member & Spouse Virtual Career Fair will take place on 10 February from 11:00am to 3:00pm Eastern time. The event, which is free to attend, is open to active-duty service members, veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserve, transitioning personnel and their spouses.
Organised by DAV in partnership with RecruitMilitary, the online event is expected to attract more than 39 employers actively recruiting from the military community. Roles on offer span a wide range of industries and seniority levels, from entry-level positions through to senior management.
The virtual format reflects an ongoing shift in recruitment strategies, allowing employers to reach geographically dispersed candidates while offering flexibility to jobseekers navigating the transition from military to civilian employment. Participants will be able to engage directly with recruiters, explore current vacancies and learn more about how their skills translate into the private and public sectors.
Beyond job matching, the event also provides a suite of career development services at no cost to attendees. These include one-to-one career counselling, resume support and opportunities to network with fellow veterans and military spouses. Attendees can also access guidance related to Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and claims assistance, an area that often presents administrative challenges during the transition period.
The February event forms part of a broader employment initiative led by DAV, which has expanded steadily over the past decade. In 2024 alone, the organisation plans to sponsor more than 95 in-person and virtual job fairs nationwide. Since the programme’s inception in 2014, DAV reports that its job fairs have generated more than 200,000 job offers within the military community, underscoring sustained demand for veteran talent among employers.
From an employer perspective, DAV has sought to articulate the business case for hiring veterans, particularly those with service-connected disabilities. As part of this effort, the organisation has published The Veteran Advantage: DAV’s Hiring Guide for Employers of the Military Community. The guide is designed to help employers strengthen their recruitment, hiring and retention practices by offering practical tools and insights into the transferable skills veterans bring to the workplace.
These initiatives come at a time when many organisations are reassessing workforce resilience, leadership pipelines and skills shortages. Veterans are often cited for their experience in leadership, teamwork, logistics, technology and problem-solving—capabilities that align closely with business needs across sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, technology and professional services.
DAV’s National Employment Director, Jeremy Yost, a service-disabled Marine veteran, is available to discuss national trends in veteran and military spouse hiring, as well as employment-related resources and job opportunities across the United States. He can also provide insight into how employers are adapting their recruitment strategies to better engage with this talent pool.
For businesses, participation in virtual hiring events offers a cost-effective means of accessing candidates with proven skills and experience, while demonstrating commitment to diversity, inclusion and social responsibility. For jobseekers, the event provides a structured environment to explore opportunities, gain professional advice and build networks without the constraints of travel or location.
Registration for the Military Community Virtual Hiring Event is open, and additional no-cost resources for veterans and their families are available through DAV’s employment platform at jobs.dav.org.
