Broadway is set to make a rare appearance in Hartford this month as acclaimed performer Jared Dixon, known for his leading roles in Hamilton and The Lion King, prepares to headline a one-day intensive masterclass hosted by ActUp Theater.

The 2025 Broadway Masterclass, taking place on Monday, 10 November 2025, will bring world-class performance training to the Connecticut community. The event promises a rare opportunity for aspiring actors, singers, and dancers—ranging from young participants aged eight to adults—to experience authentic Broadway-level instruction without leaving their hometown.

The session, running from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Renzulli Academy, 85 Woodland Street, Hartford, is designed to give attendees a deep dive into the craft of live performance. Participants will engage in practical exercises across acting, singing, and movement, complemented by professional insights into the realities of working on stage. The workshop will conclude with a live question-and-answer session, offering direct access to Dixon’s personal experience and advice from a career on Broadway.

Professional Training Beyond New York

For ActUp Theater, the masterclass represents more than a special event; it aligns with the organisation’s mission to make high-calibre arts education accessible to all. Executive Director Faithlyn Johnson emphasised the importance of creativity in community development and inclusion.

“ActUp Theater believes that creativity should be accessible to everyone. The arts are not extra… they are essential!” said Johnson. “By bringing Jared Dixon to Hartford, we’re proving you don’t have to travel to New York to experience Broadway-level training. You can find it right here in your communities.”

ActUp Theater, a Hartford-based arts organisation, has built a reputation for fostering talent and confidence in performers across a range of ages and backgrounds. The group regularly runs outreach and education initiatives designed to strengthen local engagement with the performing arts. The forthcoming masterclass is expected to continue this trajectory, drawing attention from theatre enthusiasts across Connecticut and beyond.

A Broadway Career of Distinction

Jared Dixon brings to Hartford an impressive résumé that reflects both artistic versatility and endurance in one of the most competitive entertainment industries in the world. He has portrayed Aaron Burr in Hamilton more than 1,000 times—an achievement that underscores his stamina and craft as a leading performer.

His additional Broadway and regional theatre credits include Simba in The Lion King and Grady in The Color Purple. Beyond these roles, Dixon has also featured in celebrated productions such as Rent, Hairspray, Violet, In the Heights, Sister Act, Ragtime, The Color Purple, and Hello Again. His experience across genres and styles provides a rare perspective that participants in Hartford are set to benefit from directly.

The class promises not only to enhance technical skill but also to foster a greater understanding of performance psychology, audience connection, and narrative expression—skills that are increasingly valuable for performers navigating both stage and screen careers.

Building Community Through the Arts

The event’s underlying message is one of accessibility and community empowerment. In line with ActUp Theater’s ethos, the initiative demonstrates how regional arts organisations can bridge the gap between local talent and professional experience.

By hosting a Broadway professional of Dixon’s calibre, ActUp Theater aims to show that world-class instruction need not be confined to major cultural centres such as New York or London. For Hartford, this event reflects a growing recognition of the arts as a driver of social engagement, education, and regional economic development.

With theatre participation recovering strongly following several years of global disruption, community-driven events like this are helping to revitalise interest in live performance and arts education. They also serve to inspire younger audiences and performers, ensuring that creative industries continue to thrive at the local level.
