With Venezuela's presidential election 90 days away, there are many doubts about how the process will play out. Most polls give the winner to any opponent of Nicolás Maduro, who is reluctantly in a losing situation.

The economic, political and social crisis, which was deep until at least two years ago, weakened Maduro's popularity after succeeding Hugo Chávez in 2013. Today, according to a recent study by Mechanolys, in the election, the intention to vote for the current president is no more than 13 percent.
“We need Pedro and his government, to embrace, support and legitimize the unity candidate (…) and after this there is political life, you will have all the guarantees,” said the political. Analyst and former Venezuelan mayor Ramon Muchacho told EL TIEMPO.
According to Muchacho, the political situation in the country is better than it was a few months ago, thanks to the support of the international community, whose pressure allowed the primary contests to be held. Although María Corina Machado did not go to the polls, having a candidate is an achievement, although she told this newspaper that “we would not be discussing these things if there was democracy” in Venezuela.
“We are in a very difficult phase, but much better than we imagined a year ago,” insists the analyst, adding that Gustavo Pedro and Lula da Silva must be participants in stability in the region, which could be threatened by a new wave of immigration if Maduro remains in power. Not to mention that the country loses the opportunity to supply oil to the world under competitive conditions.
