“Haitian Diaspora Week” kicks off in Dominican Republic | AlMomento.net

ELIAS PIÑA, Dominican Republic.- The XII edition of the “Haitian Diaspora Week” began to be celebrated in the municipality of Comendador of this province, with the motto “For Good Neighbor Policy”.

To kick off the celebration was a “Dominican-Haitian Fraternity Lunch” at the Assembly Hall of the Elias Pina Governorate. In addition to this city, operations are held in Puerto Plata, Santiago de los Caballeros, Santo Domingo and Commendatore.

They are held in commemoration of Dominican-Haitian Brotherhood Day and Pan American Day. They include conferences, panels and sporting, religious, artistic and cultural activities.

There was a prayer chain

This Sunday, a bilateral prayer chain for peace was held, led by Pastor Lima Confidence, and the end of the IX Vimenca Cup “for good Dominican-Haitian neighbors” was held at the Porto Plata Sports Center.

Activities coordinated by the Zile Foundation and Haitian and Dominican community organizations have the support of the Haitian Embassy and its embassies in Santiago and Higuey, as well as the Vimenca Western Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The lunch at Elias Pina was attended by representatives of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Dominican Women's and Public Health Ministries, the government, various churches and civil society, CESFRONT and the General Directorate. Migration.

Haiti had representatives from the embassy, ​​police, civil groups, transport associations and the dialogue table.
