In the middle of a morning press conference by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Journalist Vanessa Hawke from the Telemundo Network asked the Central American president about the coverage of the water service in the country. and access to water resources in diverse populations.

When his turn came, Hawke asked López about water shortages in some regions, with data provided by the National Water Commission (Conacua), an agency of the Mexican government.. The president didn't know how to answer definitively, he hesitated and seemed embarrassed, trying to discuss what the journalist had said.

“We've done a very careful study, we've talked to water experts Your own government statistics from Conacua say that 3 out of every 10 households have no running water.” was Hauc's reply.

As seconds passed, López Obrador continued to skate on the topic, unable to find data that would allow him to discuss what the journalist had asked him. In fact, he fell into common ground when Hauc explained to him that in the state of Chiapas, one of the states with the most water, water service does not reach all homes.

“Chiapas is one of the states with the most water, but that doesn't mean it reaches people's homes”Hagg's words, Obrador said he had different data, and that were different ways of thinking.

At that time, the communicator told him that it was not the center of the situation and that he was looking for an answer to the scarcity panorama in some parts of Mexico, which was supported by government statistics.

At that point, Andrés Manuel López Obrador had no choice but to attack the media again. “You, the media, in general, are not objective and are not professionals” he blurted out at Hauke, who was still waiting for an answer to his question.

Faced with the president's humiliation, the journalist had no choice but to demand respect for his work and his profession, and reminded the president that the question was backed by official statistics and an investigation with the community.

“Yes, we are objective and I ask for your respect because we are professionals and I am doing my job.“Hague told López Obrador.

“But hey, um, go ahead and have your opinion on things, we respect that, but I have other information, and here, these are precisely the priority plans that we have.“Obrador said he wanted out of the predicament that Mexico has put itself in because of the difficult situation it is experiencing to provide water to all its citizens.
