The US embassy warns its citizens not to use taxis at national airports

The US Embassy in Santiago issued a statement advising North American tourists Do not take unauthorized taxi services at national airports For recent offenses by drivers against visitors to the country.

The US organization in Chile has received constant warnings about crimes against travelers who have used taxi or car services not authorized by the airport. Passengers report theft of their belongings and excessive transport charges.

According to the report, the North American Embassy in A An instructive warning about the bad practices of the drivers of these modes of transport:

  • Use official travel and taxi apps at official airports
  • Avoid using unmetered taxis and/or unauthorized services outside airports
  • Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Do not leave any personal items in the taxi
  • Review your personal security plans
  • Bring valid identification.

Besides, Try to see the amount charged before issuing the card for the final payment of the trip and carefully review the amount charged at the portable card machines.including the number of zeros displayed on the screen.
