President-elect Joe Biden will nominate Federal Judge Merrick Carland to the U.S. Attorney General’s Office, a Biden change official who said Americans knew President Barack Obama was blocking Republican Supreme Court appointments.

Garland, 68, is a U.S. citizen for the District of Columbia. He is a judge in the Court of Appeals, one of the 13 federal courts.

Democrat Obama nominated Carland to the Supreme Court in 2016, when Biden was vice president of the Republican-controlled U.S. The Senate has refused to hold hearings on the appointment.

The official said Biden, who will be appointed in two weeks, plans to appoint Judicial Officer Lisa Monaco as Deputy Attorney General and Kristen Clark as Deputy Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division.

The news came as it was revealed that Democrats were on the verge of winning two seats in the US Senate in Tuesday’s Georgia election. This would give Democrats control of both houses of Congress and give Python more freedom to pursue his agenda.

In addition, the appointment of Biden Garland will be confirmed, which requires Senate approval.

During his election campaign, Biden pledged to end racial inequalities in charges, abolish mandatory minimum sentences, end the use of the death penalty at the federal level, and restore the role of the judiciary in prosecuting police. “Proper Deviations.”
