La Paz February 28, 2024 (ATB Digital). The 2023 Transnational Prize for Science, Technology and Innovation awarded financial incentives to professionals from 30 research projects who excelled in eight areas. President Luis Arce emphasized that research is essential to promoting development and freedom from dependence on technology.

The research ranges from health to communications and information technology, with two broad categories: “Excellent Science” and “Young Researchers”.

The first aims to receive individual or collective research works and/or technological projects carried out in research centers, institutes, companies or other entities related to the subject of science and technology.

The second concerns dissertations, research works and/or technology-based projects, the authors of which are no more than 28 years old.

“These awards reflect the appreciation of all Bolivians who devote themselves to scientific research. Research is the only key that will allow Bolivia to free itself from technological dependence.

In Bolivia, 0.06% of GDP is allocated to research that produces results. Many universities receive resources to promote and stimulate research.

“We are working with the Ministry of Planning on strategies to increase and achieve greater results, while providing the necessary resources for scientific, technological and innovative research,” Ars announced.

He explained that the incentive for research comes at an important time in the country's history, as it is on the path to industrializing natural resources and stopping production from relying on imported products.

“There are many areas in which we prioritize research, which helps us increase productivity and apply scientific knowledge,” he said.
