Tensions have risen since Taiwan announced last weekend that several Chinese warplanes and bombers had entered the area near the Taiwan-controlled Pradas Islands in the North China Sea.
The U.S. military says Chinese missions have agreed to regular deployment with the arrival of a U.S. transport aircraft in the South China Sea. The United States has criticized Chinese military aircraft.
Near the Pradas Islands, seven Chinese planes flew in the same water on Sunday, including two J-10 fighter jets, four J-11s and a Y-8 spy plane, the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense said.
The ministry added that there was a US spy plane in the same area.
Last week, China tightened its grip on Taiwan, warning that “independence is war” and intensifying military operations in response to foreign provocations and intervention by its military forces.
Beijing believes that the democratically elected government in Taiwan wants to officially declare the country’s independence, which is a red line for China. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has said that Taiwan is already an independent country known as the Republic of China.
