According to Breaking Defense, it is the largest U.S. ship in the Black Sea in three years. It comes a few days after President Joe Biden first spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about his new capabilities. Commander Thomas Rolston said the presence of the USS Porter destroyer in the Black Sea “demonstrates our continued commitment to security and stability in the region with our NATO allies and allies.” Since Russia illegally annexed the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine in 2014 and strengthened its presence in the region, the Black Sea has gained greater strategic importance to the United States and NATO. Russia has responded quickly to the growing US presence in the Black Sea by implementing its mobile coast guard system in Crimea.

U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since taking office on Tuesday, January 20, expressing concern about Russia’s actions, including the treatment of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny. White House. Spokesmen Jen Psaki, Biden and Putin also discussed the US president’s proposal to extend the new start-up agreement by five years, the only nuclear weapons agreement still in force between the United States and Russia, expiring on February 5.

The US president has expressed “firm support for Ukraine’s sovereignty” in the face of continued Russian occupation, a spokesman said. On Tuesday, Joe Biden spoke with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who said he would like to work with allies.
