Experimenta’s Science Week celebration reaches its tenth edition this year. Among the planned activities is an interactive exhibition on the molecules we eat, presented by CSIC, and a laboratory workshop through which the presence of some molecules in food will be analyzed.

Within the framework of this program of activities, a visit is made to the center of the group of elderly people who participate in the Action Program for a Healthy and Sustainable Lerena developed by the Lerena City Council.

This activity will feature “Molecules We Eat,” an exhibition presented by CSIC that showcases our relationship with food. It explains how the senses, such as smell and taste, are involved, in addition to the biological processes that our body performs to digest what we eat.

The sample also focuses on the kitchen, a laboratory of true flavors where chemical reactions such as caramelization and fermentation occur and where pioneering techniques such as gelatinization or spherification are used.

This exhibition also deconstructs false myths.

Another laboratory activity is the separation of plant pigments, molecules that we also eat.

The “Molecules We Eat” exhibition was created by the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and adapted by CSIC’s Scientific Culture and Citizen Science within the framework of Ciudad Ciencia.

Science Week is a free activity for participants sponsored by the Government of Extremadura, the Provincial Council of Badajoz and the City Council of Llerena in collaboration with the Spanish Science and Technology Foundation of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
