Air connectivity from Miami International Airport (MIA) will be closed from October until March next year. The line will be between Miami and Suriname, which will be interrupted for six months, from October 2023 to March 2024, according to specialized sources.

So Certain Tourism magazine Reporter estimated the loss of more than 14,000 seats during that period. The direct route is covered by Amerijet International, a US-based shipping company. For its part, Suriname Airlines provided flights with stops three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Despite this temporary interruption of connections to Miami, Zanderij Paramaribo Airport in Suriname will maintain connections with Aruba, Brazil, Curacao, Guyana, the Netherlands, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago. Cuba also currently has air connections with Suriname, a country that does not require visas from Cubans.

Flights from Miami Airport

If some communications decrease on the one hand, they increase on the other hand, especially from Europe. The same outlet also reported last week that Norwegian low-cost carrier Norse will increase its flights from Miami to Paris and Berlin starting in December, after moving its headquarters from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Miami, the true “hub” of the state.

Another novelty from Miami Airport, this September, which is almost completed, is the second test of a biometrics application that allows access to the plane without showing passports. This test will continue until 2024 and the selected companies, some of them from Latin America, such as Avianca, Copa and LATAM. Emirates or Turkish Airlines flights to Miami will also have this system.

The system, which eliminates the need to show your passport and plane ticket, is already installed at at least 20 boarding gates in Miami. However, this does not mean that other security agents cannot ask you for it, so it is recommended to always carry it with you as a precaution.
