DETROIT — Kleyber Torres’ hitting error in the 10th inning helped the Detroit Tigers salvage a series finale with a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday.

The Yankees were looking for their first four-game winning streak of the season since late May. Instead they lost their ninth finals game so far this season.

Up 3-0 in the ninth, Anthony Volpe hit a three-run drive off Alex Lange to tie the game in right field, becoming the first Yankees rookie to hit 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season. He is the 15th freshman in history to hit 20 home runs and 20 steals and tied with Arizona’s Corbin Carroll for second this season.

Beau Pryske (1-2) was retired in the top half of the 10th inning, and Jonathan Losika (0-1) worked the bottom half for New York.

Miguel Cabrera grounded out and the Yankees intentionally walked rookie Parker. Zach Short was forced to pitch out to Torres following Loisica, but his shot to first was deflected, sending Kerry Carpenter buzzing from second and helping the Tigers snap a five-loss skid.

For the Tigers, Cuban Andy Ibanez is 4-2. Miguel Cabrera of Venezuela is 5-0.

For the Yankees, Venezuela’s Clayber Torres scored a run in a 4-0 victory; Oswald Peraza 2-0; Everson Pereira 4-0; Osvaldo Cabrera singled to make it 2-1.
