Famous American comedian Sarah Silverman is suing ChatGPT OpenAI Meta in United States District Court for Copyright Infringement Claims.
Along with two other authors, Christopher Golden and Richard Kadrey allege that OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta’s LAMA were trained on illegally obtained datasets. Apart from that, they also mention that they are sourced from “shadow library” websites like Bibliotik, Library Genesis, Z-Library, where books are “available in bulk through torrent systems”.
The lawsuit claims the chatbot never bothered to “reproduce the copyright management information plaintiffs included with their published works.”
ThePile, the complaint says, described a Article by EleutherAI Produced from “Copy of contents of bibliodic private tracker”. Bibliotik and other “shadow libraries” listed are, the lawsuit says, “blatantly illegal.”
The authors say that they “did not agree to use their copyrighted books as training material” for the companies’ AI models. Each of its statutes contains six counts of various types of copyright infringement, negligence, unjust enrichment and unfair competition.
