SEATTLE — Jackson Sorio seems to make amazing strides every three months of the professional baseball season.

Always quick (70 on the 20-80 scouting scale!), the young Venezuelan combines that aspect of his game with power at bat and defense in center field, earning two invitations to the Game of the Future Stars. A row. All this at the age of 19.

“We’re on a better path now,” Sorio said.

To say the least. Making the jump from Class-A to Class-A Advanced and finally to Double-A in 2022, Sorio has continued to shine this year and climb the ranks. MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects List No. 2 opportunity And, of course, the No. 1 Brewers. In 293 plate appearances with Double-A Biloxi this year, the Maracaibo native has 11 home runs, 14 doubles and 50 RBI in 71 games. One thing he has improved on is stolen bases, as he has 23 in half a season after stealing 16 total in 2022.

“I don’t think there’s a lot of difference, but I’m a little more focused now and I’m stealing a little more bases,” Saurio said comparing his version of last season to what he is now.

One thing he needs to improve on, and it’s still a work in progress, is discipline at the plate. In 400 at-bats in 2022, Saurio struck out 118 times. This year, there are 69.

“We’re trying to get rid of it,” Saurio said of his pending work with the tree.

Of course, there is time. Saurio is at an age where most professional players can name a few circuits between the Dominican Summer League, the rookie level or the Florida Complex League. As for Sorio, he’s two steps away from the majors. However, Juliano is in no rush to talk about a possible promotion to Triple-A, as there is still much to do.

“I know it’s an important thing, but I try to live in the moment and do the best I can in the present,” he said. “Helping the team finish with an incredible season.”
