Aaron Judge admitted he didn’t back down after injuring a toe on his right foot just before the game.
Billy McKinney hit his fourth home run two weeks ago and was called in to replace Judge, who confirmed before the game that he had suffered a torn ligament in his finger that was causing pain when he walked.
McKinney’s drive in the fourth bounced off the hands of John Gray (6-3), a fan sitting in the big half in right field. McKinney has reached base in all 15 games with the Yankees this season.
Luis Severino (1-2) allowed five hits in six innings and struck out four relievers to complete New York’s fifth straight shutout.
The Yankees won with four hits, the sixth time in seven games with six or fewer.
